How Katibat Ansar al-Sharia in #Benghazi (ASB) & Ansar al-Sharia in Tunisia (AST) use charity to promote their Jihad

Maqdisi’s Disciples in Libya and Tunisia – By Aaron Y. Zelin | The Middle East Channel http://mideast.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2012/11/14/maqdisi_s_disciples_in_libya_and_tunisia ” Since the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi and U.S. Embassy in Tunis in September, there has been a large spotlight on the Islamist groups viewed as the main culprits — Katibat Ansar al-Sharia in Benghazi (ASB) and Ansar al-Sharia in Tunisia (AST). While much of the understandable focus has been on the violent actions of individuals in these organizations, much of the scope of their activities lies outside violence. A large-portion of the activities of these groups is local social service provision under their particular dawa (missionary) offices. This broader picture is crucial to better understanding emerging trends in societies transitioning from authoritarian to democratic rule. ASB and AST can broadly be considered jihadi organizations based on their ideological outlook. However, these jihadis are different than past incarnations. Jihadis have a good track record in fighting and less so in governing or providing social services. The only example of jihadi governance has occurred when the Somali-based Harakat al-Shabab al-Mujahidin and Yemeni-based al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) held actual territory. What sets ASB and AST apart is that they are providing aid to local communities in a non-state actor capacity, which has been unheard of previously.”….

Egypt’s New President Moves Against Democracy – The Washington Institute for Near East Policy

http://www.washingtoninstitute.org/policy-analysis/view/egypts-new-president-moves-against-democracy ….”The incident gave Mr. Morsi an excuse to sack the security officials who posed the greatest threat to his domestic authority — particularly the leaders of Egypt’s now-defunct military junta, which in June had issued its own constitutional declaration limiting the newly elected president’s powers. More important, Mr. Morsi used the Sinai crisis to assume the powers that the junta had undemocratically asserted for itself in a March 2011 constitutional declaration. He thus claimed unprecedented executive power, including complete authority over legislation, public budgets, foreign affairs, pardons, and political and military appointments. Mr. Morsi’s declaration also gives him the power to select a new assembly for writing Egypt’s constitution. And since the new constitution must be approved by popular referendum before new parliamentary elections can be held, Mr. Morsi can intervene in the constitution-writing process to delay legislative elections — and thereby remain Egypt’s sole legislator — indefinitely.”.. ….”Consider the editors he appointed to lead Egypt’s two largest state-run newspapers. The new editor of Al-Ahram is an old Mubarak regime hack who called last year’s uprising “foreign funded” and lost his column in 2010 for writing anti-Christian articles. The new editor of Gomhoriya shut down a conference on religious freedoms in 2008 and called for the murder of a well-known Bahai activist in 2009. The new editor of Al-Akhbar recently censored an article that criticized the Brotherhood. …”In its first major move against dissenters, the Morsi regime this month began prosecuting the editor of Al-Dustour, a private daily, for “harming the president through phrases and wording punishable by law.”… ….”His amendments to last year’s interim constitution give him the authority to sign — and presumably abrogate –treaties. Although many expected that de facto foreign-policy power would remain with the generals, Mr. Morsi’s quick reshuffling of the military leadership has brought the armed forces under his command. Then there are his overtures to adversaries of the West. In a mere six weeks as president, Mr. Morsi has hosted top-level Hamas delegations twice and, despite the flow of militants from Gaza into Sinai, promised to keep open the Rafah border crossing. Last week he welcomed Iran’s vice president and was invited to attend the Non-Aligned Movement’s upcoming meeting in Tehran. If he does, he’d be the first Egyptian head of state to visit Iran since the 1979 revolution. Accompanying him could be his new chief of staff, Mohamed Rifaat al-Tahtawi, a former ambassador to Libya and Iran who has declared Israel to be Egypt’s “main threat,” praised Syria as “a fundamental pillar of the resistance camp [against] Israel,” and called for closer relations with Iran and Hamas.” Many Washington analysts believe that Mr. Morsi won’t make any major foreign-policy moves, such as revoking Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel. They take his verbal assurances at face value and reason that he won’t rock the boat at the very moment that he needs international investment to boost Egypt’s ailing economy. But this same logic once dictated that he wouldn’t rush to challenge Egypt’s generals.”….

Hena Akhter,14yr old Bangladeshi girl murdered by Imam for ”adultery” which might have been rape #no2sharia #womensrights #tcot

Only 14, Bangladeshi girl charged with adultery was lashed to death – CNN.com

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/29/bangladesh.lashing.death/index.html?on.cnn=1

….”Hena Akhter’s last words to her mother proclaimed her innocence. But it was too late to save the 14-year-old girl.

Her fellow villagers in Bangladesh’s Shariatpur district had already passed harsh judgment on her. Guilty, they said, of having an affair with a married man. The imam from the local mosque ordered the fatwa, or religious ruling, and the punishment: 101 lashes delivered swiftly, deliberately in public.

Hena dropped after 70.”…

Background:

….”Many months later on a winter night, as Hena’s sister Alya told it, Hena was walking from her room to an outdoor toilet when Mahbub Khan gagged her with cloth, forced her behind nearby shrubbery and beat and raped her.

Hena struggled to escape, Alya told CNN. Mahbub Khan’s wife heard Hena’s muffled screams and when she found Hena with her husband, she dragged the teenage girl back to her hut, beat her and trampled her on the floor.

The next day, the village elders met to discuss the case at Mahbub Khan’s house, Alya said. The imam pronounced his fatwa. Khan and Hena were found guilty of an illicit relationship. Her punishment under sharia or Islamic law was 101 lashes; his 201.

Mahbub Khan managed to escape after the first few lashes.”…

RRD:In a separate,wholly unrelated story,one of Obama’s advisors on Islam said:

“The majority of women around the world associate gender justice, or justice for women, with sharia compliance”.

Obama adviser says Sharia Law is misunderstood – Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/barackobama/6274387/Obama-adviser-says-Sharia-Law-is-misunderstood.html

”Miss Mogahed appeared alongside Hizb ut Tahrir’s national women’s officer, Nazreen Nawaz.

During the 45-minute discussion, on the Islam Channel programme Muslimah Dilemma earlier this week, the two members of the group made repeated attacks on secular “man -made law” and the West’s “lethal cocktail of liberty and capitalism”.

They called for Sharia Law to be “the source of legislation” and said that women should not be “permitted to hold a position of leadership in government”.

Miss Mogahed made no challenge to these demands and said that “promiscuity” and the “breakdown of traditional values” were what Muslims admired least about the West.

She said: “I think the reason so many women support Sharia is because they have a very different understanding of sharia than the common perception in Western media.

“The majority of women around the world associate gender justice, or justice for women, with sharia compliance.

“The portrayal of Sharia has been oversimplified in many cases.”

Sharia in its broadest sense is a religious code for living, which decrees such matters as fasting and dressing modestly. However, it has also been interpreted as requiring the separation of men and women.

It also includes the controversial “Hadd offences”, crimes with specific penalties set by the Koran and the sayings of the prophet Mohammed. These include death by stoning for adultery and homosexuality and the removal of a hand for theft.

Miss Mogahed admitted that even many Muslims associated Sharia with “maximum criminal punishments” and “laws that… to many people seem unequal to women,” but added: “Part of the reason that there is this perception of Sharia is because Sharia is not well understood and Islam as a faith is not well understood”

”Subhi Al-Yaziji: The conquest of Andalusia is an old dream, something Muslims proudly hope for and will continue to hope for in the future.

[…]

We place our hopes in Allah and trust that the day will come when our triumph will not be restricted to Palestine. Our hopes go beyond that – to raise the banner of the Caliphate over the Vatican, the “Rome” of today, in accordance with the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad: “Constantinople shall be conquered and then Rome.”

Graphic Video: Muslims Slaughter Convert to Christianity in Tunisia :: Raymond Ibrahim

http://www.raymondibrahim.com/11798/graphic-video-tunisian-muslims-slaughter-convert

…”Liberal talk show host Tawfiq Okasha recently appeared on “Egypt Today” airing a video of Muslims slicing a young man’s head off for the crime of apostasy, in this case, the crime of converting to Christianity and refusing to renounce it. The video—be warned, it is immensely graphic—is on the left (the actual execution appears from minute 1:13 -4:00). For those who prefer not to view it, a summary follows:

A young man appears held down by masked men. His head is pulled back, with a knife to his throat. He does not struggle and appears resigned to his fate. Speaking in Arabic, the background speaker, or “narrator,” chants a number of Muslim prayers and supplications, mostly condemning Christianity, which, because of the Trinity, is referred to as a polytheistic faith: “Let Allah be avenged on the polytheist apostate”; “Allah empower your religion, make it victorious against the polytheists”; “Allah, defeat the infidels at the hands of the Muslims”; “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger.”

Then, to cries of “Allahu Akbar!”—or, “God is great!”—the man holding the knife to the apostate’s throat begins to slice away, even as the victim appears calmly mouthing a prayer. It takes nearly two minutes of graphic knife-carving to sever the Christian’s head, which is then held aloft to more Islamic cries and slogans of victory.

Visibly distraught, Tawfiq Okasha, the host, asked: “Is this Islam? Does Islam call for this ? How is Islam related to this matter?…These are the images that are disseminated throughout the electronic media in Europe and America…. Can you imagine?” Then, in reference to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and Salafis, whose political influence has grown tremendously, he asked, “How are such people supposed to govern?”…

Fmr Pakistani lawmaker defends ”honor” killings, threatens western NGO staff with abduction and rape,Gen.Napier responds #tcot #gwot

Former Pakistani Lawmaker [ Maulana Abdul Haleem] Denounces Secular Education for Women, Justifies Honor Killings: “Killing of Women In the Name of Honor Is a ‘Local Custom and Religious Practice,'” Warns Female Western NGO Staff that They will Be Captured and Given Away as Brides

http://m.memri.org/14499/show/7bc9501a87014bb3906fedb496a758a4/

….”Killing of women in the name of honor is a ‘local custom and religious practice’ in Kohistan…. If someone witnesses female relatives roaming with ghair mehram (other than close relatives), he can kill her without producing four witnesses [as required under Islamic law for such a punishment].” [12]

The Threat Against NGOs: “If Women Working in NGOs Enter Kohistan, We Won’t Spare Them; We’ll Solemnize Their Nikkah (Marriage) with Local Men”
“Some women from these NGOs visit our houses frequently, mobilizing naive Kohistani women to follow their agenda in the name of health and hygiene education…. This is ‘unacceptable to Kohistani culture’ …. [They will face] ‘dire consequences’ …. [and] married female NGO workers will be sent back to their husbands, and the unmarried ones will be wedded to Kohistani men.”[13] “If the NGOs wanted to work for womenfolk in the district [Kohistan] they should come through proper channel and utilize the government departments. People of Kohistan cannot be influenced by women, and NGOs should immediately stop the practice of sending women to Kohistan, or prepare for the consequences….”[14] “If the government is serious about bringing development to Kohistan, it should utilize NGOs’ funding itself with the help of local men. Men working for these NGOs can continue their work though… that is not against the Shariah and local culture.”[15] “These [girls’] schools have become cattle pens while the teachers received salaries without carrying out their duties.”[16] “If women working in NGOs enter Kohistan, we won’t spare them; we will solemnize their nikkah (marriage) with local men”…

General Napier on the practice of Sati-burning women alive:

….”This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs.”….

NEWS ALERT: Family Fears Iranian Pastor Dying Behind Bars

http://www.bosnewslife.com/21524-news-alert-family-fears-iranian-pastor-dying-behind-bars

…”Family members of jailed Iranian Pastor Behnam Irani fear he may die behind bars amid mounting concerns about his rapidly deteriorating health and prison mistreatment, an official assisting him with advocacy told BosNewsLife Wednesday, April 25.

Irani, who suffers of several ailments including an intestinal disorder, is “frequently beaten by prisoners under the watchful eye of prison officials,” said Jason DeMars of advocacy group Present Truth Ministry.

“Sources close to the family are concerned that he will die before the end of his five-year prison sentence,” DeMars explained. Besides known health issues, he is also “having trouble with his eyesight and his foot,” he added, suggesting the situation may be even more serious than previously thought.

Irani, who is in his 40s and married with two children, has been behind bars in a prison of Karaj city where he led a congregation of the Church of Iran house church movement.

He has been held on charges of “crimes against the Islamic state” apparently linked to his involvement in the unauthorized house church”…..
