Phony GOP, “Libertarian” priorities, today at 12 p.m. PT (3 p.m. ET)

Don't Let It Go

Obama says the scandals plaguing him–scandals that should be plaguing him more than they are–are “phony”. We’ll discuss why they’re not phony, including new developments on the Benghazi and I.R.S. scandals. It’s the GOP that’s phony, for its failure to hold Obama accountable. We’ll also discuss the latest on the Obamacare implementation train wreck, including a new “fix” that will exempt politicians and their staffers. And more. See program notes with links, below.

What does the mother of a ‘pre-Oslo’ monster look like?

UK Media Watch

The following is a photo published at The Independent on July 29th to illustrate a story about Israel’s recent decision to release 104 Palestinians prisoners – a group of Palestinians (convicted prior to the Oslo Accords) largely consisting of terrorists who murdered or attempted to murder Israeli citizens, soldiers and foreign tourists.

part 1

Here’s the Indy caption for the shot taken by Reuters photographer Ibraheem Abu Mustaf:

The mother of Palestinian Ateya Abu Moussa, who has been held prisoner by Israel for 20 years, hugs her grandson upon hearing the news that her son may soon be released.

The mother is rejoicing over the possible release of her son, a Palestinian (presumably seen in the photo she’s holding) alternately known as Abu Moussa Salam Ali Atiya who murdered an Israeli named Isaac Rotenberg in 1994.  Whilst the Indy caption doesn’t include a word about the crimes of Ateya Abu Moussa or…

Indy posts, then deletes, reference to Palestinian terrorists as ‘political prisoners’

UK Media Watch

h/t Gidon and Christopher

We recently posted about a grossly dishonest characterization in The Independentof the 104 Palestinian prisoners who will reportedly be released by Israel as a pre-negotiation concession to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The prisoners, held since, before Oslo, were described by the Indy’s Jerusalem correspondent Alistair Dawber as “political prisoners”, despite the fact that (as CAMERAconclusively demonstrated in April) all are incarcerated for committing violent acts – most for terrorist related violence including murder and attempted murder.

We contacted Indy editors shortly after the post, and, in addition to providing the data we secured from the Justice Ministry on the prisoners and their crimes, noted that even the Guardian (following our complaint) had corrected a story in April which originally contained the false description of the prisoners as “political prisoners”.  Though the Indy has yet to respond to our complaint, there was recently an indication…

Telegraph reporter lazily asserts that “settler” Jews violate Geneva Convention

UK Media Watch

A report in The Telegraph, ‘EU to label products from Israeli settlements, by Ben Lynfield, included the following claim, in a passage attempting to provide context to the recent EU decision over labelling Israeli products made across the green line:

The settlements contravene the Fourth Geneva Convention’s ban on an occupying power moving its nationals into occupied territory but are seen by right-wing Israelis as an expression of historic Jewish rights to the biblically resonant areas of Judea and Samaria

Lynfield, a freelance journalist based in Jerusalem who has contributed to the (British) Independent, The Scotsman,The Nation, the Egypt Independent and elsewhere, imputes an empirical certainty to a highly complex and disputed international legal issue regarding the applicability of the Fourth Geneva Convention which is extraordinary.  Reading that passage, you’d certainly believe that everyone except “right-wing Israelis” is in agreement over the illegality of such Jewish…

800,000 missing Jews: Guardian ‘refugee’ history includes glaring omission.

UK Media Watch

It’s one thing to re-write history, but quite another to pretend as if a major historical event – involving a well-documented case of ethnic cleansing – never occurred.

A July 25th edition of the Guardian’s Data Blog, edited by Mona Chalabi, was titled ‘What happened to history’s refugees?‘  Here’s the strapline:

People have been forced to leave their countries since the very notion of a country was created. We take a look at some of the largest human movements in history to find out why people left their homes, where they went and what became of them.

This ambitious project includes Israelites: Canaan (740 BC), Edict of Fontainebleau (France 1685), Muhacirs (Ottoman Empire 1783), Pogroms (Russia 1881), WWI (Europe 1914), WWII (Europe 1945), Nakba (Palestine 1948), and others.

Regarding the “Nakba”, here’s their remarkably skewed narrative:

Nowhere are numbers on refugees more contentious than the 1948 Palestinian exodus. An attack by a Zionist…

Morality undetectable: Gilad Atzmon says farewell to Helen Thomas

UK Media Watch

Merely characterizing Gilad Atzmon as antisemitic simply doesn’t do justice to the degree of hatred he spews.  Atzmon advances demonizing rhetoric about Jews which is on par with the most vile Judeophobic charges that have ever been leveled, and which is often as crude and malevolent as what would be heard at a meeting of neo-Nazis.

In brief, he repeatedly refers to Judaism as “supremacist” faith, a term popularized by David Duke, and has questioned whether the Holocaust occurred, while simultaneously arguing that, if Hitler’s genocide did occur, it can partly be explained by Jews’ villainous behavior.  On this latter point, he claimed that Hitler’s views about Jews may one day be proven right.  Atzmon also has suggested that Jews are indeed trying to take over the world, and has endorsed of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, arguing about the notorious antisemitic forgery that “it is impossible…
