British EU candidate arrested for “racial harassment” for quoting Winston Churchill’s anti-Islamic views

Election candidate arrested over Churchill speech – Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10792895/Election-candidate-arrested-over-Churchill-speech.html

Paul Weston a member of Great Britain’s Liberty Party was arrested both for delivering a speech in public and on charges of “suspicion of racial harassment”.
The former charge apparently derives from a requirement to have some kind of permit before speaking with a blow horn.
The latter charge was apparently because Weston dared to quote Winston Churchill’s book The River War in which Churchill made derogatory remarks about Islam :

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property — either as a child, a wife, or a concubine — must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the faith: all know how to die but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith.

Where is the incitement racial or otherwise? Certainly Churchill overstates since there are many Muslims to whom these charges are inapplicable ( indeed there are those among Muslims who fight against these evils.) But is this passage so wildly inaccurate when leveled at the governments of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or Iran? Do we not witness rampant misogyny ,backwardness, & fanaticism in the Islamic World on a daily basis? Have we not seen mobs of BRITISH Muslims (literally) screaming for Danish blood with chants of “die die Denmark” in response to the cartoons ridiculing Mohammed? I myself have posted numerous examples of these evils on my blog.
In any event the word incitement has an actual legal meaning in the U.S.: speech whose purpose can be objectively shown to be to persuade people to commit violent criminal acts in the here & NOW –denouncing a religion is not incitement . Calling on your audience to commit murder IS. (whether or not the call was motivated by racism or religion).
If you use your right of free speech to condemn Islam ( or Judaism or Christianity) you are not guilty of “incitement” because some fanatic decides to murder you .
It is the fanatic who must be stopped, not appeased.
But this grasp of free speech has been thrown out the window in Europe ,where instead of protecting the free speech rights of Weston ,they do the work of his critics by seeking to silence him by force.

Author’s note: Nothing I say should be taken of as even a semi- endorsement of Weston ‘s beliefs beyond what I have stated,(which concern the Churchill quote) I do not know of ,nor do I endorse his other statements & for all I know they may be loathsome to me . But nothing in the Churchill quote justifies imprisonment & if Weston made some other comment that is a genuine incitement to mob violence it is not mentioned in the article.

Iraq Vet subjected to TSA search due to having “too much metal”

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/07/08/wounded-purple-heart-marine-forced-to-undergo-extra-inspection-at-california/?test=latestnews

…..”Cpl. Nathan Kemnitz, who was gravely wounded in 2004 from a roadside bomb in Iraq, has limited use of his right arm & is incapable of lifting it above his head, according to the website. During a recent trip to the state capitol building in Sacramento, Calif. — where Kemnitz was being honored as his legislative district’s veteran of the year — the retired Marine was reportedly asked to remove his dress shirt. He was also asked by TSA workers at Sacramento International Airport to lift his arms above his head during a full-body scan. Kemnitz could not comply with either request, telling Military Times, “My right arm doesn’t work. It’s a lot of hassle for me to do that.” Kemnitz’s travel partner, Patricia Martin, was outraged following the incidents and wrote to Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to express her anger. “What does a uniform and heroism represent if our own citizens — in this case employees of the TSA and security personnel — have no regard for them?” Martin reportedly wrote.”….

…”TSA spokesman Ross Feinstein said in a statement Monday that “Our intent is to treat all injured service members and veterans with the dignity they deserve. As always, all passengers with disabilities and medical conditions are eligible for screening procedures sensitive to their particular disability, medical condition or other unique medical circumstance. “Transportation Security Officers have to resolve any
anomaly detected at the checkpoint,” Feinstein said. “As is standard procedure for all passengers, if travelers alarm when passing through a metal detector or an advanced imaging technology (AIT) unit, additional screening is required in order to resolve that anomaly.”…..

RRD: A few months ago Chuck Schumer attempted to justify banning “3d printed guns” (which actually cannot be made entirely without metal),since they would supposedly be “undetectable” to metal detectors. This is not a new tactic, they pulled a similar stunt when Glocks first came onto the market. As I noted several months ago even if it were possible to make a wholly non-metallic gun ,there would still be another problem: bullets. Ammunition contains metal. I noted then that even bullet fragments can be detected by metal detectors, much less whole rounds of ammunition. Now we again have validation of this.

FBI: Man planned to blow up bank & frame ”right-wing militias” for attack to provoke a government crackdown & civil war

RRD: Whether true or not –Llaneza has not been convicted– this is not a hoax. According to the FBI Matthew Aaron Llaneza sought to provoke a second American civil war by blowing up a bank & framing ”right-wing militias” for it. Llaneza allegedly believed that this would lead to government crackdown on conservatives which would provoke a counter-reaction which would ultimately lead to a civil war. FBI arrest one Matthew Aaron Llaneza for trying to blow up San Francisco bank. | RedState http://www.redstate.com/2013/02/09/fbi-matthew-aaron-llaneza-san-francisco/ ….”

According to the affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, on November 30, 2012, Llaneza met with a man who led him to believe he was connected with the Taliban and the mujahidin in Afghanistan. In reality, this man was an undercover FBI agent. At this initial meeting, Llaneza proposed conducting a car-bomb attack against a bank in the San Francisco Bay Area. He proposed structuring the attack to make it appear that the responsible party was an umbrella organization for a loose collection of anti-government militias & their sympathizers. Llaneza’s stated goal was to trigger a governmental crackdown, which he expected would trigger a right-wing counter-response against the government followed by, he hoped, civil war

RRD: Abu Khattala called the Libyan national army a “national chicken”.
Then said:

…”Although Mr. Abu Khattala said he was not a member of Al Qaeda, he declared he would be proud to be associated with Al Qaeda’s puritanical zeal for Islamic law. “…

…”Mr. Abu Khattala, 41,….. added his own spin. Contradicting the accounts of many witnesses and the most recent account of the Obama administration, he contended that the attack had grown out of a peaceful protest against a video made in the United States that mocked the Prophet Muhammad and Islam.”…

RRD: He goes on to present the Americans as the aggressors.

As to whether the attack on the embassy was justified:

….. “From a religious point of view, it is hard to say whether it is good or bad,” …

RRD: He then went on to denounce democracy as being un-islamic,called advocates of secular constitutions “apostates” ;
& even criticized the Muslim Brotherhood for their participation in elections.

…”Witnesses, Benghazi residents and Western news reports, including those in The New York Times, have described Mr. Abu Khattala as a leader of Ansar al-Shariah, whose trucks and fighters were seen attacking the mission.”…

…”Mr. Abu Khattala said he was close to the group but was not an official part of it. Instead, he said, he was still the commander of an Islamist brigade, Abu Obaida ibn al-Jarrah. Some of its members joined Ansar al-Shariah”…

“Almost all Libyans are Muslims, alcohol is banned, polygamy is legal, almost every woman wears an Islamic head -covering. But all of that still fell short, he said, of true Islamic law.”

Iranian Mullahs incite mobs against U.S. & Israel over “Innocence of Muslims”

Iranian Mullahs incite mobs against U.S. & Israel over “Innocence of Muslims” ….”Some senior ayatollahs welcomed the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi and warned that the U.S. should expect further harsh reactions from the Muslims.[5] The Global Ahl-e Al-Bayt Foundation, which is directly subordinate to the office of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, urged Muslims worldwide, and especially the Shi’ites, “to demonstrate and protest against this offensive move [of making the film], and do everything they can to ban it, in order to prevent the continuation of these satanic actions.” [6] On September 13, senior ayatollah Mohammad Ali Alavi Gorgani exhorted the Shi’ites worldwide to “express their outrage to the people of the world” and that Muslims should “react to this satanic move… behind which stands global Zionism.”[7] Student Basij representative Ali Hassan Zadeh called on Muslims to remove the cancerous growth – Israel – from the Middle East.[8] Kazem Tabatabai, a Friday prayer leader from the city of Zabol, said: “The Muslims must no longer keep silent. They must launch all-out jihad to eliminate the arrogance [the West headed by the U.S.].”[9] Assembly of Experts member Ayatollah Abbas Ka’abi said: “The entire Muslim nation must join forces with the zealous Libyan people against the film that insults Islam and the Prophet.” [10] Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani said: “The U.S. must expect [even] harsher measures.”[11] Iranian Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said that the Iranian government would search for the producer of the anti-Muhammad YouTube film and would place him under surveillance.[12] Two prominent regime mouthpieces, Kayhan and Fars, stressed that the targeting of U.S. diplomats in the Middle East would now become a trend.[13] A September 15, 2012 Fars analysis said that the killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya will be “the opening shot for the killing of U.S. ambassadors in the region.” It also warned Arab leaders not to suppress the masses’ rage against the U.S., because doing so could bring down their regimes: “The Arab leaders… of the post -Mubarak, post -Qadhafi and post -Ali ‘Abdallah Saleh [era]… must realize that the revolutions do not depend on them, but that they depend on the revolutions. If they stray from the path [of the revolutions], they will undoubtedly be deposed. This time, the insults to Islam came up against the dam of the Islamic awakening. The offending country [i.e. the U.S.] can no longer insult [Islam] and expect that its ambassadors in the Islamic countries will remain safe. The Islamic awakening has significantly increased the cost of insulting the sanctity of Islam. It is not only [the YouTube film’s purported director] Sam Bacile who should go into hiding; now the offending country’s ambassadors in the Islamic countries will [also] feel unsafe, even though the Egyptian and Yemeni police fired on the protestors… [The killing of the U.S. ambassador] is a phenomenon that possibly could continue – and even if it does not continue with the same determination, it may make the U.S. diplomats feel constantly unsafe.” Fars also warned the leaders of Arab countries where revolutions have recently taken place that “if they want to grow close to the West and sacrifice Islam in favor of liberal democracy, they will face their peoples’ demands, and they should not expect that to end well.” It added that Egyptian President Muhammad Mursi’s September 12 speech condemning the film but banning attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo pleased both Islamist and Western ears, and reflected his understanding that “anti-Western sentiment now prevails in his country.”….

Egypt’s New President Moves Against Democracy – The Washington Institute for Near East Policy

http://www.washingtoninstitute.org/policy-analysis/view/egypts-new-president-moves-against-democracy ….”The incident gave Mr. Morsi an excuse to sack the security officials who posed the greatest threat to his domestic authority — particularly the leaders of Egypt’s now-defunct military junta, which in June had issued its own constitutional declaration limiting the newly elected president’s powers. More important, Mr. Morsi used the Sinai crisis to assume the powers that the junta had undemocratically asserted for itself in a March 2011 constitutional declaration. He thus claimed unprecedented executive power, including complete authority over legislation, public budgets, foreign affairs, pardons, and political and military appointments. Mr. Morsi’s declaration also gives him the power to select a new assembly for writing Egypt’s constitution. And since the new constitution must be approved by popular referendum before new parliamentary elections can be held, Mr. Morsi can intervene in the constitution-writing process to delay legislative elections — and thereby remain Egypt’s sole legislator — indefinitely.”.. ….”Consider the editors he appointed to lead Egypt’s two largest state-run newspapers. The new editor of Al-Ahram is an old Mubarak regime hack who called last year’s uprising “foreign funded” and lost his column in 2010 for writing anti-Christian articles. The new editor of Gomhoriya shut down a conference on religious freedoms in 2008 and called for the murder of a well-known Bahai activist in 2009. The new editor of Al-Akhbar recently censored an article that criticized the Brotherhood. …”In its first major move against dissenters, the Morsi regime this month began prosecuting the editor of Al-Dustour, a private daily, for “harming the president through phrases and wording punishable by law.”… ….”His amendments to last year’s interim constitution give him the authority to sign — and presumably abrogate –treaties. Although many expected that de facto foreign-policy power would remain with the generals, Mr. Morsi’s quick reshuffling of the military leadership has brought the armed forces under his command. Then there are his overtures to adversaries of the West. In a mere six weeks as president, Mr. Morsi has hosted top-level Hamas delegations twice and, despite the flow of militants from Gaza into Sinai, promised to keep open the Rafah border crossing. Last week he welcomed Iran’s vice president and was invited to attend the Non-Aligned Movement’s upcoming meeting in Tehran. If he does, he’d be the first Egyptian head of state to visit Iran since the 1979 revolution. Accompanying him could be his new chief of staff, Mohamed Rifaat al-Tahtawi, a former ambassador to Libya and Iran who has declared Israel to be Egypt’s “main threat,” praised Syria as “a fundamental pillar of the resistance camp [against] Israel,” and called for closer relations with Iran and Hamas.” Many Washington analysts believe that Mr. Morsi won’t make any major foreign-policy moves, such as revoking Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel. They take his verbal assurances at face value and reason that he won’t rock the boat at the very moment that he needs international investment to boost Egypt’s ailing economy. But this same logic once dictated that he wouldn’t rush to challenge Egypt’s generals.”….

DOJ official Tom Perez, his meetings with Islamists & his refusal to explicitly denounce blasphemy laws

DoJ official refuses to denounce demands for Saudi-style blasphemy law | The Daily Caller http://dailycaller.com/2012/07/27/doj-official-refuses-to-denounce-demands-for-saudi-style-blasphemy-law/ RRD:According to the Daily Caller Tom Perez a DOJ official refused to denounce blasphemy laws. This took place at hearings convened because of a Daily Caller article published in October of 2011 ,on a meeting Perez had with members of the Islamist group ISNA (a unindicted conspirator in the Holy Land case) most notably Mohamed Magid, along with others. (To my knowledge Magid himself was not named in the case) …”At the end of the public meeting, Perez called more meetings with the Islamists, even though he had watched while Magid called for legal punishment of people who criticize Islamic texts that call for violence against non -Muslims and for the subordination of women to men.”… …”During the meeting, Perez also complimented the Islamists for lobbying against airline security measures. Perez also listened while another Islamist called for the Justice Department to redefine religious free speech as illegal discrimination. The department’s “civil rights lawyers are top of the line — I say this with utter honesty — I know they can come up with a way” to redefine criticism as discrimination, said Sahar Aziz, a female Egyptian -American lawyer who spoke at the event. “I’d be willing to give a shot at it,” said Aziz, who spoke for the Institute for Social Policy & Understanding, a Michigan -based advocacy group. “We must continue to have the open and honest and critical dialogue that you saw in the robust debate,” Perez said just a few minutes after Aziz made her demand for Saudi-style blasphemy laws.”….
