Mitt Romney we will repeal the bad & keep the ”good” parts of Obamacare

Mitt Romney on RomneyCare vs. ObamaCare – YouTube

April 2010

RRD:In the video Romney defends a Individual Mandate(on a state level) as well as a ban on ”discriminating” against those with pre-existing conditions(the provision that will likely destroy private insurance).Romney tries to differentiate between the two on the grounds that his program did not impose price controls;see here for a rebuttal:

And as to the argument that Obamacare is a Federal program rather than a state program.I can see the debate between Romney & Obama now:

Obama:”Well I’m glad we’re in agreement that the Individual Mandate is,you know, what a lot of folks would say,is just taking care of your responsibilities, what you do just doesn’t affect you,we’re all in this together, you know. Now I know that there are a few ideologues out there, who claim to be conservative, who think that this is ”socialistic”,well is Mitt Romney,a businessman,a socialist?

Of course not, this whole thing about rights being in peril is just ”silly season”.

Romney:Now,now,Barack,I am not supportive of a federal individual mandate to force people to buy health insurance, just a state one.

Obama:”Well I’m glad this debate has taken a more sensible turn, that’s what this is about federalism(smirking),there isn’t a MORAL question about this, there’s a bi-partisan consensus that the government has the right to do this,it’s just a matter of whether its done on a state or federal level. Now I,& my side, would say it should be done on a federal level,& you & other commonsense Republicans,(smirking)would say it should be done on a state level, and the American people(almost giddy)why most of them would shrug their shoulders & say well it doesn’t really matter, once the moral stuff has been gotten out of the way.”

But the Federal vs State question is important Robert?Legally yes.Morally it’s irrelevant. If the Individual Mandate violates our inalienable rights,(which it does),than it is illegitimate whether the federal government or state government does it.The state of Massachusetts DID NOT have the right to pass Romneycare,Romney DID NOT have the right to sign it.

And quite frankly, what incenses many people against this,is that vestige of the libertarian spirit which values individual liberty. Not the fact that it a federal, rather than a state program. This is first and foremost a MORAL & PHILOSOPHICAL BATTLE.And in that battle Romney IS THE ENEMY.He is not the only enemy, but he is a enemy.

Romney on Romneycare: ‘I Am Not Going to Walk Away From That’ – By Katrina Trinko – The Primary Event – National Review Online

“You have seen a lot of candidates look at their biggest vulnerability, call it a mistake, and ask for forgiveness,” Romney continued. “In my case that wouldn’t be honest.”

He affirmed that he believes the health-care program was the “right thing” for Massachusetts then, although he conceded that it hasn’t “worked perfectly.”
